dIS•Orient Journalzine

dIS•orient Journalzine started as a collaboration between USC and UCLA AAPI students and community culture workers in the 90s.

Today, the Journalzine has been relaunched with a website focusing on AAPI arts and literature. We will also include arts and literary events from Southern California.

After some thought, I have decided to not revisit dIS•orient as a literary arts journal with new content. You can not always resurrect the past. During those publication years, editors did blind readings with new writers. We also recruited estabished authors to create new work. I am not able to do that with no editorial staff, so I have shifted into a blog/review model.

This website serves as an archive of past editions of the journal.

dIS•orient Journalzine has been resurrected as an Instagram account documenting the poetry scene in Southern California.

d hideo maruyama, the former editor for the zine, will be working on a Substack account to document his observations about poetry, literature and the state of AAPI artistic expression.
